PhD Scholarships For Minorities in Statistics, University of Padova, Italy

Announcement for admission to PhD Schools of Padova University has been published at the University website

on September 3rd, 2010, with deadline on October 4th, 2010. Please note that documentation has to be received by the University within the deadline.
The seven positions for the PhD School in Statistics are covered by scholarships of euros 13.638,47 per year for a total of 3 years.

In detail,
6 positions are supported by scholarship from the University of Padova;
1 position is supported by scholarship from Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Padova e Rovigo on the subject "Innovation diffusion processes: diachronic competition, interpersonal communication, and networks" (supervisor Prof. Renato Guseo);

Two more positions are available without scholarship, for students who would like to attend the School and have funding from other sources.

Admission to the PhD School in Statistics will be decided on the basis of qualifications only and does not require an entry examination.

Scholarship Description

Literature identifies 5 key assets that determine sustainable livelihoods: human, social, natural, financial & physical capital. Studies on Indigenous indicators have shown there is co-occurrence of low assets, inadequate strategies & poor outcomes to sustain livelihoods. Frameworks developed with Indigenous people which value Indigenous ways of knowing, being and doing in approaches to land, livelihoods, and governance are needed. Communities across North Queensland are increasingly challenged in relation to livelihoods, challenges that are likely to heighten with economic & climate change, environmental pressures & government policies in relation to services & welfare support. This project will examine the issues that Indigenous communities face in maintaining livelihoods in NQ & strategies for creating employment and economic opportunities. The value of this scholarship is AUD22500 (per annum). This award is to be used for research and living expenses. This scholarship is paid fortnightly for the period of 2 years if masters or 3 years if PhD.
Research Information

This scholarship is for one of the following fields of research: SOCIAL SCIENCES, HUMANITIES AND ARTS - GENERAL. It is required that your study starts no earlier than January 1, 2011 and no later than June 30, 2010.

UNEP-WCMC Chevening MPhil Scholarships

The UNEP World Conservation Monitoring Centre, in collaboration with the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, The British Council, and in association with the University of Cambridge in its partnership with the Cambridge Conservation initiative, is very pleased to offer four UNEP-WCMC Chevening MPhil Scholarships in Conservation Leadership beginning in October.
Successful candidates will have the opportunity to spend a year at the Cambridge-based Centre, whilst undertaking the MPhil, and where they will work alongside our experts to build their knowledge base on biodiversity and provide information products and services to decision makers ranging from UNEP, to the international environmental agreements, and the private sector.
Candidates are expected to be of a high academic calibre, with at least . Applicants for this prestigious award will be expected to prove their commitment to a future working in national and regional policy development and resolving biodiversity-related challenges.

Eligibility
Applications will be considered from candidates from any country other than those in the European Union (except for the 2004 Accession States), North America and Canada. Priority will be given to candidates from developing countries and countries with economies in transition.
Successful candidates will be:
  • Graduates fulfilling the academic requirements for entry to the University of Cambridge MPhil in Conservation Leadership
  • Committed to return to their country and contribute to its development through leadership skills and knowledge acquired in the UK
  • Clear about how their scholarship will benefit their country on their return
  • Able to demonstrate the personal qualities needed to benefit from having a year’s experience of international conservation leadership in Cambridge
  • Able to demonstrate good English language skills (with an IELTS of 7 where applicable).
