The DARE Doctoral Fellowship Program awards two-year fellowships to: Stanford doctoral students in their final two years, who want to investigate and prepare for academic careers, whose presence will help diversify the professoriate.Stanford’s commitment to diversity is broadly conceived to include, but is not limited to:
underrepresented racial and ethnic minorities;
first-generation college students;
women in fields such as natural science and engineering;
gay, lesbian and transgendered students;
disabled students;
others whose backgrounds and experiences would diversify the professoriate in their academic fields.
The objectives are to better prepare students from diverse backgrounds for academic careers and to have them, at the same time, enrich the educational experiences of others. Thus, the program expands the academic “pipeline” in two ways. DARE is a four-year pilot program for three cohorts of students on two-year fellowships. Twelve new Fellows will be selected each year. The first cohort of DARE Fellows was selected in spring 2008. Application deadline for the fourth cohort is April 6, 2011. Applications are sought from Stanford doctoral students from all fields, departments and programs. The application deadline for the fourth cohort is April 6, 2011. All materials, including letter of support and assessment from the primary advisor, must be submitted electronically.
